Today, Zenyatta will take her final bow before her adoring fans at Hollywood Park. In celebration of her astounding racing career, I am posting a video with quotes about this fairy-tale mare from trainers, writers and other media sources.
In my mind, Zenyatta has become virtually indescribable in words alone.
She is more than a champion race horse. She is more than a media maven. She more than a dancing diva. And, if she wins “Horse of the Year,” she is even more than that award.
Zenyatta is like falling in love. You can’t describe it to someone who has never felt it. Yet, for those who love Zenyatta, we endlessly try to sum her up through describing her personality, one-of-a-kind dance routines and exceptional racing record.
However, in the end, just like love, it really is the sum of everything that she is, along with her indescribable intangible qualities, that can’t be grasped unless you simply know it with you own eyes and heart.
For those who fell in love with this great mare, she isn’t vanishing in a simple farewell. Zenyatta is a flame that will remain in the hearts and memories of her fans for eternity and beyond.
And, she will remain a story. It may not be told in daily media articles, but instead, in homes across the world.
Somewhere in the future, there may be a moment where you tell her story to someone brand-new to racing. And, when they ask, “Did you get see her with your own eyes?” You’ll be able to say, “Yes, I did. I saw the greatest mare that ever set foot on a track in my lifetime.”

You are absolutely right! I can’t describe what feelings I had as I watched her each time as she made her way to the track and then dominated the field in the homestretch. But her performance prior to her last race was phenominal…I felt her energy as if it was I and not her groom who was proudly holding her lead shank as she double pranced, tapping, and courting the crowd…she demanded adoration, and claimed mine. I am a licensed race trainer, I have had horses all my life, and will always have horses…but just to be the groom of a horse great as she would be an honor. God gave us a glimpse of the perfect racehorse…and I for one will always be in love. Thanks for capturing my feeling.
I couldn’t have said it better myself! What a perfect tribute for such a champion that I know I will never forget…
You nailed it Jennifer. I will always cherish my time spent with Zenny and Dottie. I was already a huge fan of Dottie’s who, herself, is an amazing business woman and one of the classiest people in the horse industry. That this indescribable animal ended up in the hands of her husband and her was not a fluke. They are as classy as she is. I hope someday after Z becomes a mom that she ends up at the Horse Park where she can be adored and admired on a daily basis. This new chapter is merely the beginning of a legacy that has many, many chapters left to play out. Thank you team Z and my beautiful Zenyatta. The love is real!
This horse means more to people than anyone will ever be able to understand. And yes, I did get to see her with my own eyes. So proud of you, Zenyatta-you mean so much to me and countless others. I was so excited when I was heading to Breeder’s Cup ‘10 I would tell total strangers “I’m going to get to see Zenyatta”! Even those who weren’t “in the know” were happy for my and caught my excitement. Love you, Lady Z, and good luck in the next chapter of your life-heaven knows we’ll miss you on the track!
Well done, Jennifer…the post and the video were right on. In my mind, I will be thinking of the times I watched her race and the experience I had close up to her. True horse racing fans, and those BLAME horseplayers that gained all kinds of respect for her in a losing effort, will always remember ZENYATTA.
The general public has already forgotten her. Those that mentioned her to me in passing Breeders’ Cup week, no longer speak about her. I hope some will see your video. Perhaps it will spur them on to read more about her and this great game.
Thank you for the wonderful comments! I appreciate it.
FYI….NO ONE here has forgotten her! I dont know where you live but I am in Lexington KY and everyone, EVERYONE knows her name. The guy at Waffle House, the lady at Keeneland, my 8 year old cousin. They are all still talking about it. They will talk about her even more when the Eclipse awards happen in January, at the sale, at the next Keeneland meet, when she foals, when her foal starts training, when she tours the country (we can hope!) and on and on. And with each discussion, her legend will grow. She will never be forgotten.
Zenyatta is coming to the right place and I think the Mosses for giving us this gift. The horse business needs as many friends as it kind find, particularly in our state. Main point is, dont you worry, we arent going to allow Zenyatta to be forgotten!!!!
I don’t think anyone who ever loved Zenyatta will forget her, Candace. I agree with you.
(I’m excited for her to arrive in Kentucky. She’ll be in “road trip” distance!)
Here’s another one!

Hi, Jennifer!
Is it possible to obtain a link (or a copy) of your video with quotes about Zenyatta? It has to be the best video I have ever seen highlighting Zenyatta’s career! I looked everywhere for it…
Thank you,
Gina
H Gina~ Thank you for the compliment. The song is copyrighted, so YouTube removed the sound on the video. I just took the link down when I realized that one. So…. I don’t have a link to send anymore. I’m sorry.
